My friends call me Alexandra.
I was born and raised in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. I knew from the time I was 13 years old that I wanted to be an actor and move to Hollywood to pursue my dreams.
When I was 15 years old I started looking in magazines for ways to learn about an acting career in LA. I sent in $20 to an ad in the back of a popular magazine for a list of places that featured opportunities for actors. I got the list but I had never heard of the places and I had no one to ask and no one to help me figure it out. Who do you trust? How do I spend my allowance? I was already feeling like I’d been scammed out of $20.
My parents made it clear that once I got to college an acting career was out. They were paying the bills. They wanted me to find my “other” career, so that if I still want to be an actor after I got my degree then I’d at least have a fallback job. Good point. I got my degree and with it a one way ticket to Long Beach, California via McDonnell Douglas Corporation (now Boeing).
Now I was on my own in Long Beach to pursue my dreams. I entered into an acting class in Newport Beach (what???) and tried out for musical theatre in Orange County (what???). Here I had gone all this way – close to Hollywood, close to pursuing my dreams, and I still didn’t know what class to take, where to live, where to work and who to study with. Headshots? I didn’t get those until years after I moved here!
I had no idea what I was doing!!!
Slowly I started to meet other actors. I made some friends. I asked, who did your headshots? How do you contact agents? How do you get auditions? Eventually I learned I needed to live in Los Angeles – not Orange County - and continue meeting more actors. Many year after I arrived I started to find great acting coaches, started to make connections and started to work in acting.
I said to myself, why the hell didn’t I have all the information and resources I needed when I was eighteen years old???If I knew then what I know now.
Sometime back I came up with the idea of wanting to help other actors with this same problem by figuring out a way to get the information to you as efficiently, cheaply and effectively as possible. Along comes the internet and my hope of helping others is a viable and affordable option for me.
I know how busy your days can get. Auditions, day job, working on sides, driving, acting class, rehearsals, keeping in shape, marketing your materials…believe me I know how fast the time goes by. So my mission is to keep you up-to-date on all the information, resources and research you may not have time to do. In a way that is accessible and easy to understand. I don’t want you to lose out on anything that can help your career.
And that is what ALEX’S INFO is all about!
